Takhrij Hadith 1021: "We were with Ibn 'Abbas…"

We were with Ibn 'Abbas in al-Ta'if, and while we were walking one day in some of the melon fields, the owner of the melon field stood up and harvested from his field two watermelons, and placed them between our hands. So I began to eat and discard its rind, so Ibn 'Abbas said 'Do not do so, for indeed its rind is from the mountains of Paradise, and if the people knew what is in it, they would wish that their fruits and their sustenance were all watermelons. As for it, it was the food that Adam ate in Paradise, so Iblis weighed it against a weight beneath the boundaries of the seventh earth, so when he knew that Adam ate it, he said 'I fear that not a single one of his offspring will remain with me in the Fire except that he will be taken out from it, for indeed Allah blesses it and whoever eats from it, and how can he who has been blessed by the Compeller be in the Fire?!' And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying 'Its water is mercy and its sweetness is like the sweetness of Paradise.
