Takhrij Hadith 1191: "The month of Ramadan was…"
On the authority of 'Abdullah bin 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both:
“
The month of Ramadan was only named Ramadan because the sins are scorched in it out of acceptance, and Shawwal was only named Shawwal because the sins are raised from it just as the camel raises her tail, and Sha'ban was only named Sha'ban because the provisions branch out in it, and Rajab was only named Rajab because the angels desire in it through glorification, praise, and commendation for the Compeller, the Mighty and Majestic. And Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to say 'The Day of Fitr is the Day of Prizes.”
