On the authority of ‘Umar bin al-Khattab (RA):
“
Abu Mahdhura pronounced the Adhan for the Zuhr prayer while ‘Umar was in Mecca. He raised his voice just as the sun had passed its zenith. ‘Umar said: “O Abu Mahdhurah, are you not afraid that your belly might split open?”. He replied: “I wanted you to hear it.” ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) then said: “Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Delay the prayer until it cools when the heat is intense, for intense heat is from the exhalation of Hell. Indeed, Hell disputed until it consumed part of itself, so it asked Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, for permission for two breaths, and He granted them. Thus, the intense heat is from its [Hell’s] breath, and the extreme cold is from its bitter cold”.
