Takhrij Hadith 1264: "A man came to the…"

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, which charity brings the greatest reward?" He replied: "That you give charity while you are healthy and reluctant to part with your wealth—fearing poverty and hoping for wealth. Do not defer it until [death] reaches the throat, and you say: 'To so-and-so belongs this, and to so-and-so belongs that,' when it already belongs to so-and-so."
