Takhrij Hadith 1280: "While the Messenger of Allah…"

While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was praying with his Companions, he took off his sandals and placed them to his left. When the people saw this, they also threw down their sandals. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished his prayer, he said: “What made you throw down your sandals?” They said: “We saw you throw down your sandals, so we threw down ours.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed, Jibril (peace be upon him) came to me and informed me that there was filth in them”—or he said: “some harmful impurity.” He ﷺ then said: “When any of you comes to the mosque, let him look at his sandals. If he sees any filth or impurity on them, let him wipe it off and pray in them.”
