Takhrij Hadith 1286: "A worshipper from the Children…"

On the authority of Abu Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“
A worshipper from the Children of Israel devoted himself to worship in his hermitage for sixty years. Rain fell upon the earth, making it green, so the monk looked out from his hermitage and said: “If I were to go down and remember Allah, I would gain more good”. He descended with a loaf or two loaves of bread with him. While he was on the land, he met a woman and kept speaking with her and she continued speaking to him until he engaged in a sexual relationship with her. Then he fainted, and afterwards went down to a pond to bathe. A beggar came to him, so he gestured to him to take the two loaves of bread, or the loaf. Then he died, and the worship of sixty years was weighed against that act of fornication, and the fornication outweighed his good deeds. Then the loaf or two loaves of bread were placed alongside his good deeds, and his good deeds outweighed the sin, so he was forgiven.
