Takhrij Hadith 1371: "I was a man who,…"
On the authority of ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
“
I was a man who, whenever I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Allah benefited me from it as much as He willed. If one of his Companions narrated something to me, I would ask him to swear an oath; if he swore to me, I would believe him. Abu Bakr narrated to me, and Abu Bakr spoke the truth. He said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: No man commits a sin, then gets up, purifies himself, prays, and seeks Allah’s forgiveness, except that Allah forgives him.” Then he recited this verse: {And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins}.”
