Zayd ibn Arqam reported :
“
The Prophet ﷺ sent me to Abu Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—and I gave him glad tidings that he would be among the people of Paradise. Then he sent me to ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him—and I gave him the same glad tidings. Then he sent me to ʿUthman, and I gave him glad tidings that he would be in Paradise by a trial that would befall him. ʿUthman then took me by the hand and led me to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is this trial that will befall me?” By Allah, I have never sung (in a blameworthy manner), nor wished for wrongdoing, nor touched my private parts with my right hand since I accepted Islam—or since I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—nor have I committed adultery, either in the pre-Islamic period or in Islam. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: “Indeed, Allah shall clothe you in a garment; if the hypocrites desire that you cast it off, do not cast it off”.
