Takhrij Hadith 1409: "We went out with the…"

We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ toward Hunayn. As we passed by a lote tree, I said: “O Prophet of Allah, designate this tree for us as a Dhat Anwat, just as the disbelievers have a Dhat Anwat.” The disbelievers used to hang their weapons on a lote tree and devote themselves to it. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah is the Greatest! This is just as the Children of Israel said to Moses: {Make for us a god just as they have gods.} [Al-A‘raf 7:138] Indeed, you will follow the ways of those who came before you.”
