The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ascended the pulpit and said: “I do not swear; I do not swear; I do not swear”. Then he descended and said: “Receive glad tidings! Receive glad tidings! For indeed, whoever observes the five [daily] prayers and avoids the major sins shall enter through whichever of the gates of Paradise he desires”. Al-Muttalib said: I heard a man ask ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr: “Did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mention them [the major sins]?” He replied: “Yes: undutifulness to parents, associating partners with Allah, the taking of a life, slandering chaste women, consuming the property of the orphan, fleeing from the battlefield, and consuming usury”.
