Takhrij Hadith 152: "The Ansar heard that Abu…"

The Ansar heard that Abu ‘Ubaidah had arrived with wealth from Bahrain, for the Prophet ﷺ had sent him there. He arrived just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was performing the Dawn prayer (Fajr). When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, they positioned themselves in his path. Upon seeing them, he smiled and said: “I suppose you have heard that Abu ‘Ubaidah bin al-Jarrah has arrived, and has brought wealth with him?” They replied: “Indeed, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Rejoice, and hope for that which will gladden you! By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you; rather, I fear that the world’s wealth will be poured out upon you, and you will compete for it just as those before you competed for it”.
