Takhrij Hadith 161: "We were at the door…"

We were at the door of al-Zuhri when he heard a commotion and asked: “What is this, O Walid?”. I looked out and saw the head of Zayd ibn ‘Ali being paraded around by a frivolous rabble. When I informed him, al-Zuhri wept and said: “Haste has destroyed the people of this house”. I asked: “Will they ever rule?” He replied: “Yes; ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to me from his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Fatimah: “Rejoice, for the Mahdi will be from you [your lineage]”.
