It was narrated from Abu Sa‘id that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“

The key to prayer is purification, its commencement is the Takbir (saying: Allahu Akbar), and its conclusion is the Taslim (saying: Al-Salamu Alaykum). There is no prayer for one who does not recite Al-Hamd (Surat Al-Fatihah) and another Surah, whether in an obligatory prayer or otherwise.

”
