Takhrij Hadith 1719: "I came to the Messenger…"
It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said:
“
I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) toward the end of the night and prayed behind him. He took hold of my hand, pulled me, and placed me beside him. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his attention to his prayer, I stepped back. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued praying, and when he finished, he said to me: What is the matter with you? I place you beside me, and you step back? I said: O Messenger of Allah, is it fitting for anyone to pray beside you while you are the Messenger of Allah, whom Allah has granted such favor? He was pleased by that and supplicated to Allah to increase me in knowledge and understanding. He said: Then I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sleep until I heard him breathing audibly. Then Bilal came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, the prayer. So he got up and prayed without renewing his Wudu (ablution).”
