Takhrij Hadith 2087: "Whoever performs a prayer in…"

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said:

“
Whoever performs a prayer in which he does not recite the Opening Chapter of the Qur’an (Sūrat al-Fātiḥah), his prayer is deficient, incomplete”—he said this three times. It was said to Abu Hurayrah, “We pray behind the imam.” He replied: “Recite it silently to yourself, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: Allah, the Most High, said: I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, and My servant shall have what he asks for. When the servant says: {All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all worlds,} Allah, the Most High, says: “My servant has praised Me.” When he says: {The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,} Allah, the Most High, says: “My servant has extolled Me.” When he says, {Master of the Day of Judgment,} He says: My servant has glorified Me.” On one occasion, He said: “My servant has entrusted his affairs to Me.” When he says: {You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help,} He says: “This is between Me and My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.” When he says: {Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have earned [Your] anger or of those who are astray.} He says: “This is for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.
