Takhrij Hadith 2088: "I said: “O Messenger of…"

I said: “O Messenger of Allah, which people are tested most severely?” He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: “The Prophets, then those most like them, then those most like them. A person is tested according to the strength of his religious commitment. If his religious commitment is firm, his trials will be more severe; but if there is weakness in his religious commitment, he will be tested according to the strength of his religious commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a servant until they leave him walking upon the earth with no sin upon him.”
