Takhrij Hadith 214: "The Messenger of Allah (peace…"

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us and said: «Last night I saw something astonishing. I saw a man from my Ummah whom the angels of punishment had surrounded, then his Wudu (ablution) came and rescued him from them. I saw a man from my Ummah upon whom the punishment of the grave had been laid, then his prayer came and rescued him from it. I saw a man from my Ummah whom the devils had surrounded, then his remembrance of Allah came and delivered him from them. I saw a man from my Ummah panting with thirst, then his fasting of Ramadan came and gave him drink. I saw a man from my Ummah with darkness before him, darkness behind him, darkness on his right, darkness on his left, darkness above him, and darkness beneath him, then his Hajj and Umrah came and brought him out of the darkness. I saw a man from my Ummah to whom the Angel of Death came to take his soul, then his dutifulness to his parents came and turned him away from him. I saw a man from my Ummah speaking to the believers, but they would not speak to him, then his maintaining the ties of kinship came and said: This man used to maintain his ties of kinship. So they spoke to him, and he spoke to them, and he became one of them. I saw a man from my Ummah approaching the Prophets while they were sitting in circles; whenever he passed by a circle, he was driven away. Then his Ghusl (ritual bath) from Janabah came, took him by the hand, and seated him beside me. I saw a man from my Ummah shielding his face with his hands from the blaze of the Fire, then his charity came and became a shade over his head and a covering before his face. I saw a man from my Ummah to whom the guards of punishment came, then his enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong came and rescued him from them. I saw a man from my Ummah who had fallen into the Fire, then the tears he had shed in this world out of fear of Allah came and brought him out of the Fire. I saw a man from my Ummah whose record was falling toward his left hand, then his fear of Allah Most High came, took his record, and placed it in his right hand. I saw a man from my Ummah whose scale was light, then his children who had died before him came and made his scale heavy. I saw a man from my Ummah standing on the brink of Hell, then his fear of Allah Most High came and rescued him from it. I saw a man from my Ummah trembling as a palm branch trembles, then his good expectation of Allah Most High came and calmed his trembling. I saw a man from my Ummah crawling along the Sirat (the bridge over Hell) at one time and creeping on his hands and knees at another, then his sending blessings upon me came, took him by the hand, and set him upright upon the Sirat until he crossed it. And I saw a man from my Ummah who reached the gates of Paradise, but the gates were closed before him, then his testimony that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah came, took him by the hand, and admitted him into Paradise.»
