Takhrij Hadith 268: "When the Messenger of Allah…"

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left his wives in Madinah, he placed them in a fortified place, among them Safiyyah bint Abd al-Muttalib, and he assigned Hassan ibn Thabit to stay with them. A man from the polytheists came intending to enter upon them, so Safiyyah said to Hassan: “Deal with the man”, but Hassan was unable to do so and hesitated. Safiyyah then took a sword and struck the polytheist until she killed him. When this was reported to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,he allocated a share of the war spoils to Safiyyah, just as he would allot a share for men.”
