Narrated by Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi:

“
A man from among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ died, and the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began praising him and mentioning his acts of worship, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent. When they fell silent, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Did he frequently remember death?” They replied: “No”. He said: “Did he leave off many of the things he desired” They said: “No” He said: “Your companion did not attain much of what you think he did”.
