I was eating hays [a mixture of dates, ghee, and dried milk] with the Prophet ﷺ when ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab passed by. The Prophet ﷺ invited him, so he joined us and began to eat. During the meal, his hand accidentally touched my finger whereupon he said: “Oh! If my opinion regarding you women had been obeyed, no eye would have seen you”. Then the verse of hijab was revealed”.
