Hadith 343
Language:

Takhrij Hadith 343: "Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and Abu…"

On the authority of Ja’far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

“
Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah were discussing a matter and began arguing over it. ‘Ali said to them: “Come with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ”. When they stood before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they said: “O Messenger of Allah, we have come to ask you about something”. He replied: “If you wish, you may ask, or if you wish, I can inform you of what brought you here”. They said: “Inform us: to whom is a favor rightly done?” He said: “A favor should only be done for one who possesses nobility or religion. And you came to ask me about provision and what brings it to a servant, so seek it and draw it down through charity. And you came to ask me about the striving (jihad) of the weak; indeed, the striving of the weak is the Hajj and the ‘Umrah. And you came to ask me about provision—where it comes from and how it comes? Allah has refused to provide for His believing servant except from where he does not expect”.
