Takhrij Hadith 389: "A man came to ‘Ali…"

A man came to ‘Ali and said: “O Commander of the Faithful, I am unable to pay off my freedom-contract, so help me”. ‘Ali said: “Shall I teach you some words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me? If you had a debt equal to a mountain of gold dinars, Allah would surely enable you to pay it off” He said: “Yes” ‘Ali said: “Say: O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful so that I have no need of what You have made unlawful, and enrich me by Your bounty from dependence on anyone besides You”.
