Takhrij Hadith 432: "I went out one night…"

On the authority of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

“
I went out one night and found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ walking entirely alone, with no one accompanying him. I assumed that he might not want anyone walking with him, so I began walking in the shadow of the moon. He turned around, saw me, and asked: "Who is this?" I replied: "Abu Dharr, may Allah make me a ransom for you". He said: "O Abu Dharr, come here". So I walked with him for a while, and he said: "Indeed, those with the most wealth will have the least reward on the Day of Resurrection, except for those whom Allah grants wealth and they spend it generously to their right, to their left, in front of them, and behind them, and use it to do good". I continued walking with him for another while, and he told me: "Sit here". He seated me in a level place surrounded by stones and said : "Sit here until I return to you". He then went off into the lava field until he disappeared from my sight. He was gone for a long time. Then, I heard him approaching, and he was saying: "Even if he stole, and even if he committed adultery". When he arrived, I could not restrain myself and said: "O Prophet of Allah, may Allah make me a ransom for you! Who were you speaking to on the side of the lava field? I did not hear anyone replying to you". He said: "That was Jibril, peace be upon him. He appeared to me at the side of the lava field and said: “Give glad tidings to your nation that whoever dies without associating anything in worship with Allah will enter Paradise”. I asked: “O Jibril, even if he stole and even if he committed adultery?” He replied: “Yes”. I asked again: “Even if he stole and even if he committed adultery?” He replied: “Yes, and even if he drank wine”.
