Takhrij Hadith 435: "Which of the places is…"

Which of the places is best?” He replied: “I do not know”. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Then ask your Lord about it”. Upon that, Jibril wept and said: “O Muhammad, do we even have the right to ask Him? He is the One Who informs us of whatever He wills”. Then Jibril ascended to heaven, and later returned to him and said: “The best of places are the mosques; they are the houses of Allah on earth”. The Prophet ﷺ then asked: “Then which of the places is worst?” So Jibril ascended to heaven once again, returned, and said: “The worst of places are the markets”.
