Takhrij Hadith 480: "Jibril came to me holding…"

Jibril came to me holding something like a white mirror in which there was a black spot. I said: 'O Jibril, what is this?' He said: 'This is Friday'. I said: 'And what is Friday?' He said: 'There is great good for you in it'. I said: 'And what do we have in it?' He said: 'It will be a festival day for you and for your people after you, and the Jews and Christians will follow behind you regarding it'. I said: 'And what do we have in it?' He said: 'There is an hour in it during which no Muslim servant asks Allah for something from this world or the Hereafter that has been decreed for him except that Allah grants it to him; and if it has not been decreed for him, Allah stores for him something better than it. If he seeks refuge from an evil that has been written for him, Allah averts from him a calamity greater than that evil'. I said: 'And what is this black spot within it?' He said: 'It is the Hour; it will occur on a Friday. Friday is, for us, the chief of all days, and on the Day of Resurrection we call it the Day of Increase'. I said: 'Why is that?' He said: 'Because your Lord, Blessed and Exalted, has prepared in Paradise a valley of white musk. When Friday comes, Allah descends from the highest realms and settles upon His Throne in a manner befitting His Majesty. The Throne is surrounded by pulpits of gold adorned with jewels, and the Prophets come and sit upon them. Then the people of the lofty chambers come and sit upon the dunes of musk. Thereupon your Lord, Blessed and Exalted, reveals Himself to them and says: "Ask of Me, and I will give to you". They ask Him for His pleasure, and He says: "My pleasure is what has admitted you into My abode and granted you these honors, so ask of Me and I will give to you". They continue asking, and He bears witness that He is pleased with them. Then He opens for them blessings that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and that have never occurred to the heart of any human being. This is the measure of their gathering on Friday'. Then Allah rises, and with Him rise the Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs, while the people of the lofty chambers return to their dwellings. These dwellings are made of a white pearl without flaw or crack, or of a red ruby, or of green emerald, containing their chambers and ornamented doors, with rivers flowing within them and fruits hanging low. There is nothing that the people of Paradise long for more than Friday, so that they may increase in beholding their Lord and increase in the honor bestowed upon them by Him.
