Takhrij Hadith 481: "He passed by an idol…"

He passed by an idol made of copper and struck its back with the back of his hand, then said: “Ruined and lost is the one who worships you besides Allah”. Then an angel came to the Prophet ﷺ, and another angel was with him, but that angel withdrew. The Prophet ﷺ said: “What is the matter with him that he withdrew?” He replied: “He detected the smell of copper on you, and we are unable to bear the smell of copper”.
