Takhrij Hadith 498: "We entered into the state…"

We entered into the state of ihram (ritual consecration ) with the Prophet ﷺ and arrived in Makkah with four nights of Dhu al-Hijjah having passed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to exit our ihram and make it an ‘umrah, so we completely exited the state of ihram. We circumambulated the House and went between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then, when the Day of Tarwiyah came, he instructed us to enter ihram for Hajj. Some of us said to one another: “We have come from our homeland, and now, with only four nights between us and Mina, are we to go out while our private parts are still dripping with semen?” This reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: “Do you accuse me while I am the trustworthy one of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth? By Allah, if I had known beforehand what I came to know later, the sacrificial animal would only have been brought from Makkah”.
