Takhrij Hadith 502: "A young boy from among…"
Hassan ibn Kurayb reported:
“
A young boy from among them passed away, and his parents were overwhelmed with grief. Then Hawshab, a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ said: “Shall I tell you what I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say regarding someone like your son?” He said: “One of the Prophet’s companions had a young son who used to walk about and would come with his father to visit the Prophet ﷺ . Then the boy passed away, and his father grieved so deeply that for nearly six days he did not come to see the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ asked: "Why do I not see so-and-so?" They replied: "O Messenger of Allah, his son has died, and he is overcome with grief ". The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to him: "O so-and-so, would you prefer that your son were with you now, full of energy like the most lively of boys? Would you prefer that your son were with you now, one of the bravest of young men? Would you prefer that your son were with you now, a mature man among the best of men? Or would you prefer to be told: “Enter Paradise as the reward for what has been taken from you?”.”
