Takhrij Hadith 527: "He wept, and it was…"
On the authority of Shaddad ibn Aws:
“
He wept, and it was said to him: “What makes you weep?” He said: “Something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I remembered it and it made me weep”. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “What I fear most for my nation is shirk (associating partners with Allah) and hidden desire”. I said: “O Messenger of Allah, will your nation associate partners with Allah after you?” He said: “Yes. They will not worship the sun, the moon, a stone, or an idol, but they will show off with their deeds. As for hidden desire, it is when one of them begins the day fasting, then a desire among his desires comes to him, and he leaves his fast”.”
