Takhrij Hadith 547: "The Prophet ﷺ planted a…"

The Prophet ﷺ planted a stake in front of him, then planted another beside it, then planted a third one farther away. He then said: “Do you know what these are?” They replied: “Allah and His Messenger know best”. He said: “This is the human being, this is his appointed term (death), and this is his hope. He reaches out after his hopes, but death snatches him away before that”.
