Takhrij Hadith 561: "I was with Anas at…"

I was with Anas at al-Zawiyah, above a room belonging to him. When he heard the call to prayer, he came down, and I came down with him. He then shortened his steps (walking slowly with small strides). He said: “I was with Zayd ibn Thabit, and he walked with me in this manner and said: "Do you know why I made you walk like this?" He then said: "The Prophet ﷺ walked with me in this manner and said: 'Do you know why I walked with you like this?'" I replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best". He said: "So that the number of our footsteps in going to the prayer may be increased".
