Takhrij Hadith 609: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ…"

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a group of his Companions who were laughing at something that had occurred to them. He said: “Are you laughing while the mention of Paradise and Hellfire is before you?”. Thereupon, this verse was revealed: {Inform My servants ˹O Prophet˺ that I am truly the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful and that My torment is indeed the most painful}.
