Takhrij Hadith 635: "When the pledge of allegiance…"
On the authority of Aslam:
“
When the pledge of allegiance was given to Abu Bakr after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, ‘Ali and al-Zubayr used to visit Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, consulting with her and discussing their affairs. When news of this reached ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, he went and entered upon Fatimah and said: "O daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, by Allah, there is no one more beloved to us than your father, and there is no one more beloved to us after your father than you. Yet, by Allah, that will not prevent me, if these men gather in your house, from ordering that the house be burned down over them". Aslam said: When ‘Umar left, they came to her, and she said: "Do you know that ‘Umar came to me and swore by Allah that if you returned, he would certainly burn the house down over you? And by Allah, he will surely carry out what he has sworn to do. So leave, rightly guided, and decide your course among yourselves, but do not return to me". So they departed from her and did not return to her until they had pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr.”
