Takhrij Hadith 664: "While the Messenger of Allah…"
On the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
“
While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting, we suddenly saw him smile until his molar teeth became visible. ‘Umar said to him: "What has made you smile, O Messenger of Allah? May my father and mother be sacrificed for you!" He said: "Two men from my nation knelt before the Lord of Might. One of them said: 'My Lord, obtain justice for me from my brother for the wrong he did me'. Allah, Blessed and Exalted, said to the claimant: 'What will you do concerning your brother when none of his good deeds remain?' He replied: 'Then, my Lord, let him bear some of my sins'. At this, the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) filled with tears, and he wept. Then he said: 'Indeed, that Day is tremendous. People will be in need of someone to bear some of their burdens of sin'. Then Allah, the Exalted, said to the claimant: 'Raise your gaze and look into Paradise'. He raised his head and said: 'My Lord, I see cities of gold and palaces of gold adorned with pearls. For which prophet, truthful one, or martyr is this?' Allah said: 'It belongs to whoever pays its price'. He said: 'My Lord, who is able to pay that price?' Allah said: 'You are'. He asked: 'How?' Allah said: 'By pardoning your brother'. He said: 'My Lord, I have pardoned him'. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: 'Take your brother by the hand and admit him into Paradise'. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah and reconcile with one another, for indeed Allah brings about reconciliation among the Muslims".”
