Takhrij Hadith 844: "O sinner, never feel secure…"
On the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas, who said:
“
O sinner, never feel secure from the evil consequences of your sin. What follows a sin can be graver than the sin itself. Your lack of shame before the two angels on your right and your left while committing the sin is graver than the sin itself. Your laughing while not knowing what Allah will do with you is graver than the sin. Your rejoicing over the sin when you succeed in committing it is graver than the sin. Your sorrow over missing the opportunity to commit the sin is graver than the sin if you committed it. Your fear when the wind stirs the curtain of your door while you are committing the sin, yet your heart does not tremble at Allah's watching you, is graver than the sin itself. Woe to you! Do you know what the sin of Ayyub (Job), peace be upon him, was, for which Allah tested him with affliction in his body and the loss of his wealth? His only sin was that a poor man sought his help against an act of oppression, but he did not help him, nor did he enjoin what was right or forbid the oppressor from wronging that poor man. So Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, tested him.”
