Takhrij Hadith 1067: "I never intended to do…"

Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying:

“
I never intended to do any of the vile things that the people of the Jahiliyyah used to intend, except on two occasions throughout my life, and on both occasions Allah protected me from them. I said one night to a young man from Quraysh who was tending sheep of our family with me in the upper part of Mecca 'Would you watch my sheep for me so that I spend the night staying up in Mecca just as the young men do?' He said 'Yes.' So I went out, and when I reached the first house of the houses of Mecca, I heard singing and the sound of tambourines and flutes. I asked 'What is this?' They said 'So-and-so is marrying so-and-so,' a man from Quraysh marrying a woman from Quraysh. I became distracted by that singing and music, and my eyes were overcome by sleep, I did not wake up until the heat of the sun touched me. Then I returned to my companion, and he asked 'What did you do?' I told him. Then I did the same on another night, and I went out and heard the exact same thing, and the same was said to me as before. I listened to what I heard until my eyes were overcome by sleep, and I was not awakened except by the touch of the sun. Then I returned to my companion, and he asked 'What did you do?' I replied 'I did nothing.' The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him then said 'By Allah, I never intended any evil after them from what the people of Jahiliyyah used to do, until Allah honored me with His Prophethood
