The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said one day: “Who will give me their pledge?” Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, asked: “Upon what shall we pledge? Have we not already pledged to you once before, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “That you shall never ask anyone for anything.” Thawban asked: “What is in it for [the one who does] that, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied: “Paradise.” So Thawban gave his pledge. Abu Umamah said: “I later saw him in Mecca when the people were at their most crowded; his whip would fall while he was riding, and sometimes it would fall on a man’s shoulder, and the man would pick it up to hand it to him, but he would not take it—he would instead dismount to pick it up himself”.

Umaimah bint Raqiqah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him upon Islam. He said: “I take your pledge of allegiance on the condition that you will neither associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor fornicate, nor kill your children, nor bring forth a slander that you falsely fabricate between your hands and your feet, nor wail, nor display yourself as women did in the days of pre-Islamic ignorance.

I came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was taking the pledge of allegiance from the people. So I said: “O Messenger of Allah, extend your hand so that I may give you my pledge, and set your condition for me, for you know best regarding it”. He said: “I accept your pledge of allegiance upon [the condition] that you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, that you establish the prayer, give the Zakat, offer sincere counsel to the Muslim, and separate yourself from the polytheist.

Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from a military expedition, Hajj, or ‘Umrah, he would say Takbir (Allahu Akbar) three times on every elevated piece of ground, and then say: "There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all dominion and all praise, and He is over all things powerful. [We are] returning, repentant, worshipping, prostrating, and praising our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, granted victory to His servant, and alone has He defeated the confederates."

‌ Food was brought to the messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I said to him : “May Allah make me your ransom! Why not eat while reclining, as it would be more comfortable for you?”. Then he lowered his head until his forehead almost touched the ground, and he said: “No; rather, I eat as a servant eats, while sitting”. ‘Aicha said :”I never saw the messenger of Allah ﷺ eat while reclining until he died may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

‌ Food was brought to the messenger of Allah ﷺ , and ‘Aicha said to him: “O prophet of Allah, If you would eat while reclining, It would be more comfortable for you”. Then he lowered his forehead until it almost touched the ground, and he said: “Rather, I eat as a servant eats, and I am sitting as a servant sits; for indeed I am but a servant”. The prophet ﷺ used to sit poised.

‌ O Aicha, If I wished, mountains of gold would go with me. An angel came to me whose waist was equal [in size] to the Ka’ba, and he said: “Your Lord sends His greetings of peace to you and says: If you wish, a Prophet-Servant, or if you wish, a Prophet-King.”. He [the prophet ﷺ] said : then I looked toward Gabriel [asking for his advice] and he signaled to me to humble myself. So I said : “a prophet-servant”. Aicha said : After that, the messenger of Allah ﷺ would not never eat while reclining saying: “I eat as a servant eats, and I sit as a servant sits”
