Takhrij Hadith 1221: "A cloak was presented as…"

A cloak was presented as a gift to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Lady 'Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, kept it. Then a beggar came to the door asking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for charity. He said: "O 'Aisha, give the cloak to the beggar." The beggar took it joyfully and went to the marketplace, calling out: "Who will buy the cloak of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" The people gathered around him, each wishing to purchase it. A blind man heard the call and said to his servant: "Go and buy the cloak, no matter how high its price may be. If you do so, you are free for the sake of Allah." The servant bought the cloak and brought it to him. The blind man took hold of it and said: "O Lord, by Your supreme right and by the blessing of his pure cloak before me, restore my sight to me." It was not long before his sight was restored. He then went joyfully to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my sight has been restored. Here is the cloak as a gift from me to you." He related to him what had happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled until his molar teeth became visible, then said: "Look, O 'Aishah, at that cloak: it enriched a poor man, healed a sick man, freed a slave, and then returned to us."
