Narrated Abu Sa’id al-Khudri and Abu Hurairah: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“
The last two men to come out of the Fire—Allah will say to one of them: “O son of Adam, what have you prepared for this day? Have you ever done any good? Did you ever put your hope in Me?” The man will reply: “No, O Lord”. So he will be ordered back to the Fire, and he shall be the most regretful of the people of Hell. Then Allah will say to the other: “O son of Adam, what have you prepared for this day? Have you ever done any good? Did you ever put your hope in Me?'” The man will reply: “No, my Lord, except that I used to put my hope in You”. Thereupon, a tree will be raised for him. The man will say: “O Lord, place me under this tree so that I may seek shade in its shadow, eat of its fruit, and drink of its water” He gives his covenant to Allah that he will not ask for anything else, so Allah places him under it. Then a tree is raised for him that is more beautiful than the first and with more abundant water. He says: “O Lord, place me under this tree so that I may seek shade in its shadow, eat of its fruit, and drink of its water”. Allah will say: “O son of Adam, did you not give your covenant that you would not ask for anything else?” He replies: “O Lord, only this one, and I shall not ask for anything else” and he gives his covenant again. So Allah brings him to it. Then a tree is raised for him at the gate of Paradise; it is more beautiful than the first two and with more abundant water. He says: “ O Lord, place me under this one” . So Allah brings him near to it. There, he hears the voices of the people of Paradise and can no longer contain himself. He says: “O Lord of Paradise! O Lord, admit me into Paradise!”. Allah Almighty will say: “Ask and wish”. So the man asks and wishes for the equivalent of three days of this world. Allah even reminds him of things he had no knowledge of (to wish for). When he finishes, Allah says: “You shall have what you asked for”. Abu Sa’id said: “And the like of it along with it”. Abu Hurairah said: “And ten times as much along with it”. One of them said to his companion: 'Narrate what you heard, and I will narrate what I heard”
