Takhrij Hadith 1797: "There was a blind man…"

There was a blind man who had a slave woman who had borne him a child. She used to insult the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and speak against him. He would forbid her from doing so, but she would not desist, and he would rebuke her, but she would not heed his rebuke. Then, one night, she began insulting the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and speaking against him again. So he took a migwal (a short sword or a sharp-bladed weapon that a man could conceal beneath his clothes) and thrust it into her abdomen. He then leaned upon it with his weight until it pierced through her, killing her. A child fell between her legs, and the blood stained the area around her. When morning came, this was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He gathered the people and said: "I adjure by Allah any man who has a claim upon me regarding what was done — let him stand up." The blind man then came forward, making his way through the people, staggering as he walked, until he sat before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am the one who did it. She used to insult you and speak against you, and I would forbid her, but she would not desist. I would rebuke her, but she would not heed my rebuke. I have two sons from her, like two pearls, and she was a gentle and kind companion to me. But last night, she began insulting you and speaking against you again, so I took the migwal, thrust it into her abdomen, and leaned upon her until I killed her." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then said: "Bear witness: her blood is forfeit (no retribution or blood-money is due for it)."
