Takhrij Hadith 1808: "The Messenger of Allah (peace…"

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man from Banu ʿAbd al-Ashhal to collect the obligatory charity. When he returned, he asked him for some camels from the charity. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became so angry that his anger could be seen on his face. One of the signs by which his anger could be recognized was that his eyes would become red. Then he said: “A man may ask me for something that is not right for me, nor for him. If I withhold it from him, I dislike withholding; but if I give it to him, I would be giving him something that is not right for me, nor for him.” The man then said: “O Messenger of Allah, I will never ask you for anything from it again.”
