Takhrij Hadith 1904: "When the Messenger of Allah…"

When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed him to go to Yemen, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out with him to bid him farewell and give him some advice. Muʿadh was riding, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was walking beneath his mount. When he had finished, he said: “O Muʿadh, perhaps you will not meet me after this year of mine, and perhaps you may pass by this mosque of mine and my grave.’ Muʿadh wept intensely, grieving at the prospect of parting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he turned and faced toward Madinah and said: “The people who have the greatest right to me are the pious, whoever they are and wherever they may be.”
