Takhrij Hadith 2146: "I was relating a hadith…"

Narrated by Abu ʿUbaydah ibn Hudhayfah, who said:

“
I was relating a hadith about ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, and I said, "Here is ʿAdī, in the outskirts of Kūfah. If only I went to him, so that I could hear it directly from him myself." So I went to him and said, "I have been relating a hadith on your authority, and I wanted to hear it directly from you myself." He said: When Allah, the Almighty, sent the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I fled from him until I reached the farthest part of the Muslim lands, towards the lands bordering the Romans. Then I began to dislike the place where I was living so much that I disliked it even more than the place from which I had come. I said to myself, "I shall certainly go to this man. By Allah, if he is truthful, I shall hear from him; and if he is a liar, he will not harm me." So I went to him, and the people began looking up at me and exclaiming, "ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim! ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim!" I think he said that they repeated it three times. He said to me, "O ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, embrace Islam and you will be safe." I said, "I belong to a religion." He said, "O ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, embrace Islam and you will be safe." I said, "I belong to a religion." He repeated this three times. Then he said, "I know your religion better than you do." I said, "You know my religion better than I do?" He replied, "Yes. Are you not the chief of your people?" I said, "Yes, I am." Then Muhammad mentioned the Rākūsiyyah." The narrator said, "He searched for a word to describe it precisely, but then left it." He continued, "For it is not permissible in your religion to take the Mirbāʿ (one-quarter of the spoils of war or wealth that a tribal chief would take for himself during the pre-Islamic era)." When he said this, I began to feel somewhat humbled. Then he said, "I can see that what is holding you back may be the poverty you see among those around me, and the fact that all the people have united against us. Do you know where al-Ḥīrah is?" I said, "I have heard of it, but I have never been there." He said, "A time is soon to come when a woman travelling in a litter will set out from al-Ḥīrah without needing anyone's protection, until she circumambulates the Kaʿbah. And the treasures of Kisrā ibn Hurmuz will soon be conquered." I said, "Kisrā ibn Hurmuz?" He replied, "Kisrā ibn Hurmuz," repeating it three times. "And a time will soon come when a person will seek someone to accept his charitable donation, but he will find no one willing to accept it." ʿAdī said, "I have indeed witnessed two of these predictions: I saw a woman travelling in a litter set out from al-Ḥīrah without needing anyone's protection, until she circumambulated the Kaʿbah; and I was among the cavalry that raided al-Madāʾin, the Persian capital. By Allah, the third prediction will certainly come to pass as well. This is a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which he related to me."
