Takhrij Hadith 215: "I visited Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah…"
Zayd ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa‘id ibn ‘Amr ibn Nufayl from the tribe of Banu ‘Adi narrated from his father, who said:
“
I visited Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah al-Ansari with some young men from Quraysh after he had lost his sight. We found a rope suspended from the ceiling and some loaves of bread placed before him. Whenever a poor person asked for food, Jabir would get up, take a loaf, and hold onto the rope [to guide himself] until he reached the person and gave it to him; then he would follow the rope back to his seat. I said to him: “May Allah grant you wellbeing; if a poor person comes, we can give the food to him for you” He replied: “I seek the reward from Allah for these steps”.Then he said: “Shall I tell you something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” They said: “Yes”. He said: “I heard him say: "The Quraysh are people of trustworthiness; no one seeks out their stumbles except that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will cast him down on his face [on the Fire]".”
