Takhrij Hadith 240: "Which of your wives do…"

Which of your wives do you love the most?” He replied, “You, O ‘Aisha.” She said, “Then go out and tell all of them.” So he smiled, gave her a date, and said to her, “Tonight I will gather them and tell them, but do not tell anyone that I gave you a date.” Then he left and went to each of his wives, asked about her condition, gave each one of them a date, and told her not to tell anyone. At night they gathered, and ‘Aisha asked him, “Which of your wives do you love the most?” The Prophet ﷺ smiled and said, “The one with the date — she is the one I love the most.” So they smiled and felt happy inside themselves, and each one rejoiced at the Messenger of Allah’s love for her.
