Takhrij Hadith 285: "There was a dispute between…"
On the authority of ‘Aisha, the Mother of the Believers:
“
There was a dispute between her and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he said to her: ‘Whom do you accept to judge between you and me? Do you accept ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab?’ She said: ‘I do not accept him; ‘Umar is harsh.’ He said: ‘Do you accept your father between you and me?’ She said: ‘Yes.’ So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for him, and he came. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Indeed, this one’s situation is such-and-such, and her situation is such-and-such.’ She said: I said: ‘Fear Allah, and do not say anything but the truth!’. At that, Abu Bakr raised his hand and struck her on her nose, saying: ‘May you have no mother! O daughter of Umm Ruman, do you and your father speak the truth while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ does not?!’. Her nostrils began to bleed profusely, and he kept hitting her because of what she had said and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘the house’ . So she fled from him and clung to the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She stayed there until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: ‘I adjure you to leave, for we did not invite you for this.’ When he left, she stood up and moved away from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said to her: ‘Come close to me.’ But she refused to do so. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said to her: ‘Before this, you were clinging very tightly to my back!.”
