Takhrij Hadith 377: "whenever the Messenger of Allah…"

Mu’adh ibn Jabal and Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated:

“
whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped at a stopping place during a journey, would have the Muhajirun camp nearest to him. We once stopped at a place, and the Prophet ﷺ stood while we were gathered around him. During the night, Mu’adh and I awoke. We looked around and found that he was not there, so we went out searching for him. Then we heard a humming sound like the sound of grinding mills. Soon he approached us, and when he came near, he said: “What is the matter with you?” They said: “We awoke and did not see you where you had been. We feared that something might have happened to you, so we came looking for you”. He said: “A visitor came to me in my sleep and gave me the choice between half of my nation entering Paradise or being granted intercession. So I chose intercession for them”. We said: “Then we ask you, by the right of Islam and by the right of companionship, to include us among those who enter Paradise”. Then the people gathered around him and said the same thing that we had said. As more and more people gathered, he said: “I reserve my intercession for those who die without associating anything with Allah”.
