Abu Sa’id Al-khudri (RA) narrated:
“
A group of people from 'Abdul-Qais came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O prophet of Allah, we are from this tribe of Rabi'a, and there live between us the unbelievers of Mudar tribe, and we can only reach you during the Sacred Month. So, enjoin upon us something that we may convey to those we left behind, and by which we may enter Paradise if we adhere to it. The messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I command you with four things and forbid you from four: Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish prayer, pay Zakah, fast Ramadan, and give one-fifth of the spoils of war; and I forbid you from four: Al-Dubba (gourds), Al-Hantam (green jars), Al-Muzaffat (pitch-smeared vessels), and An-Naqir (hollowed stumps).' They asked: 'O Prophet of Allah, what do you know of An-Naqir?' He replied: 'Indeed, it is a [palm] trunk which you hollow out, then you throw into it small dried dates (Al-Qati’ah)—or he said: dates—and then you pour water into it until its boiling subsides. Then you drink it until one of you—or one of them (other members of your tribe)—strikes his cousin with a sword [intoxicated].' Sa’id said: Among the delegation was a man who had sustained such a wound, and he said: 'I was hiding it out of shyness from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' I asked: 'In what should we drink then, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'In leather waterskins that are tied at their mouths.'They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, our land abounds in rats; the leather waterskins cannot survive there.' The Prophet of Allah ﷺ replied: 'Even if the rats eat them, even if the rats eat them, even if the rats eat them.' And the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said to Al-Ashaj of ‘Abdul-Qais: 'Indeed, you possess two qualities that Allah loves: forbearance and deliberation.' .
