Takhrij Hadith 470: "We were with the Messenger…"

We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Tabuk when the sun rose with a brightness, radiance, and light the like of which had never been seen before. Then Jibril came to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said: “O Jibril, why do I see that the sun has risen today with a brightness, light, and radiance unlike anything I have seen before?” He replied: “That is because Mu'awiyah ibn Mu'awiyah al-Laythi died today in Madinah, and Allah sent one thousand angels to offer prayers over him”. The Prophet ﷺ said: “And why is that?” He replied: “Because he used to recite {Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad} frequently, by night and by day, while walking, standing, and sitting”. Then he said: “Would you like, O Messenger of Allah, for me to fold up the earth for you so that you may offer the funeral prayer over him?” The Prophet ﷺ replied: “Yes”. So he offered the funeral prayer over him.
