Takhrij Hadith 507: "One day I came to…"

Ka'b ibn ‘Ujrah reported:

“
One day I came to the Prophet ﷺ and noticed that he looked changed . I said: “May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, why do you look so changed?” He replied: “For three days, nothing has entered my stomach that would sustain a living being”. I went out and found a Jewish man watering his camels. I drew water for him, receiving one date for each bucket. I gathered some dates and brought them to the Prophet ﷺ. He asked: “Where did you get these, O Ka'b?” I told him what had happened. The Prophet ﷺ then said: “Do you love me, O Ka'b?’ I replied: “Yes, may my father be sacrificed for you”. He said: “Poverty comes more swiftly to those who love me than a flood rushes to its course, and you will face trials, so prepare armor for them”. Later, the Prophet ﷺ noticed Ka'b's absence and asked: “What has happened to Ka'b?” They said: “He is ill”. So the Prophet ﷺ walked to visit him and said: “Rejoice, O Ka'b”. Ka'b's mother then said: “Congratulations to you, O Ka'b, for Paradise!” The Prophet ﷺ said: “Who is this who presumes to speak on Allah's behalf?” They replied: “It is his mother, O Messenger of Allah”. He said: “How do you know, O mother of Ka'b? Perhaps Ka'b spoke about things that did not benefit him, or withheld things whose loss would not have harmed him”.
